July 1st, India’s National Doctors Day, presents an opportunity to acknowledge the nation’s health champions’ tireless efforts. Under the theme “Celebrating Resilience and Healing Hands,” it also recognises the enormous potential doctors hold to use AI to bring about an era of digital health transformation.

With India’s doctor-to-patient ratio falling from 1.2 in 1991 to 0.7 in 2020, AI technology offers a timely solution to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility in healthcare. Collaboration between doctors and innovators is vital in building an integrated healthcare ecosystem that can cater to the diverse needs of India’s population.

Aided by initiatives like the “Make in India” program and the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM), the adoption of AI within healthcare is on the rise. As of 2021, over 3,500 active startups were operating in the healthtech sector. These startups employ technological tools like AI, IoT, ML, and big data to tackle healthcare challenges, as demonstrated by Dozee, an AI-based Remote Patient Monitoring system.

Celebrating doctors on this day, industry leaders have expressed admiration for their dedication and resilience. They are the catalysts for change in the healthcare sector, driving innovation in partnership with tech startups. By leveraging AI, doctors have the power to transform healthcare, making it more patient-centric, efficient, and equitable.
