"Medical Breakthrough in Treating Mitral Stenosis at Wockhardt Hospitals"

At Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, the medical team has successfully managed a complex case involving an elderly patient, Mr. Acharekar. Diagnosed with mitral stenosis, heart failure, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), the patient’s breathing problems required a unique approach.

Dr. Parin Sangoi, an Interventional Cardiologist, implemented a rarely used but highly effective procedure – Percutaneous Transvenous Mitral Commissurotomy (PTMC). The PTMC procedure allowed for the expansion of Mr. Acharekar’s narrow heart valve, leading to an improved flow of blood and consequent ease in breathing.

Parallel to this, Dr. Sulaiman Ladhani, Consultant Pulmonologist, treated the patient’s COPD to further stabilize his breathing. When the patient’s breathing difficulty didn’t improve despite COPD management, a collaborative approach with Dr. Sangoi led to comprehensive care, including the successful PTMC procedure.

In addition, an angiography revealed minor blockages in Mr. Acharekar’s coronary arteries, managed through medication. This breakthrough case demonstrates Wockhardt Hospitals’ dedication to pioneering cardiac care and their ability to use innovation to overcome challenges in elderly healthcare.
